German OpenVMS conference postponed over COVID-19

A user group event in Germany that was scheduled for early May has been postponed in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. As part of the IT Symposium 2020, the OpenVMS SIG was scheduled to meet for its annual OpenVMS Spring Event.

Using notices distributed on the Encompass Germany website and to the VMS SIG listserv, Connect Germany and the German Tandem User Group said they “have been observing developments since the end of February and have now decided to postpone the IT symposium 2020 planned for early May in Berlin. All registrations for the IT symposium are automatically canceled by us.”

“A new date will be announced as soon as there is planning certainty again. We wish you and your families all the best in this turbulent time. Take care of yourself and your loved ones and use digitization to protect yourself at work.”

The annual meeting would have brought together OpenVMS managers and the experts from VMS Software Inc. (VSI) and their partners “for an intensive exchange of information and to see how VSI with their partners can support you with the daily challenges with OpenVMS.”

The user group also noted that the conference “also offers the opportunity to find out about other HPE platforms.”

The meeting was scheduled for the Radisson Blu Hotel Berlin.

One talk that was already scheduled was to update users on What’s New with Oracle Rdb 7.4. It includes new features in Oracle Rdb 7.4; Oracle Rdb Connectivity Manager (ORCM) 7.3.4; and SQL Services 7.4. This talk, whenever it’s shared, will include details on Oracle’s support for the new OpenVMS TCP/IP stack already engineered by VSI; enhanced password support; and enhanced support in the Optimizer for Hash Joins.
